A volume of manuscript verse by various people with numerous extracts from the plays of Shakespeare and many anonymous poems. Signature of Louisa Grey on front pastedown. The year "AD 1765" also appears on front pastedown in a different hand. "Louisa Grey, 1784" is visible underneath the front pastedown. Includes Lyttleton, Advice to a lady; William Stevenson, Epitaph on a miser; Sheridan, On a coquette, 24 lines beginning, "Yes, I confess that thou art fair" [not in Crompton Rhodes edition of Sheridan's poems]; Soame Jenyn's Written in a lady's volume of tragedies; Sheridan's Stanzas beginning "Ask'st thou how long my love shall stay," followed by an answer entitled "Delia to Damon," also perhaps by Sheridan, but not in Crompton Rhodes; Canning, Verses spoken by Mr. Dawkins of Christ Church in Oxford, July 4th, 1793, including lines omitted from the printed version; Mrs. Barbauld, Come here fond youth; Mrs. Delany on losing her sight; Sheridan's Advice to Miss Linley; William Cowper's Verses supposed to be written by Alexander Selkirk; Garrick's Epitaph on Bernard Hale, with other poems by him; a poem by Thomas Gray; Verses to Mr. Opie from Mrs. Opie on his painting for her a picture of a particular friend; William Roscoe's The butterfly ball, 48 lines in 12 verses though not written out as such; The peacock at home, written by a Lady, 151 lines; Soame Jenyn's Epitaph on Doctor Samuel Johnson; The butterfly's funeral, 36 lines in 9 verses; The birth of the butterfly, 80 lines in 20 verses; and poems by Hannah More.

Hannah More, one of five sisters, taught at her family's school in Bristol, England. She became prominent in London's Bluestocking circle from 1774 onward, and was also a friend of Samuel Johnson. Her work soon moved from poetry and drama to the production of numerous popular religious books and tracts.
